My Book Project...

When I was in grade two I, along with three other classmates, where lucky enough to meet the President of Indonesia, Mr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. This wonderful opportunity arose because of a competition that we had in our classroom where our assignment was to author, illustrate, edit and present a book as if we were going to sell it to the public. It was a lot of fun but at the same time I learnt that writing a book is not quite as easy as it seems. I titled my book 'What To Do'. When our teacher had selected the books that would be displayed in an exhibition that was being presented by my school, Sekolah Pelita Harapan Bukit Sentul, at the National Library of Indonesia, we were invited to present our work to the President in person. I was really amazed that the President of Indonesia was so tall, I haven't seen anyone that tall since I last saw my grandfather in Australia! And even more surprising was that he was very kind and spoke English with ease. I must admit that I was a little worried and nervous about actually meeting him, but after he spoke to me all my nervousness disappeared. My classmates and I had our books autographed by Mr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and he congratulated us on our accomplishments. Afterwards, other members of the President's cabinet who accompanied him to the National Library, came to read and sign our books also. It was a wonderful opportunity and one that I will always cherish.

Olden Day...

Olden Day, September 20,2006

Let me tell you about this photograph. I chose this particular photo as it stirs up fond memories in me. Last year in 2006, our class - led by Mrs Jane, stepped back in time to re-invent a day back in the times when people did not have all the modern day conveniences like we have today. Our entire class participated in what we called an 'Olden Day'. When I talk about modern day conveniences I mean automobiles, electricity, computers and other modern day comforts. Our transportation consisted of horses carts, our school lessons were completed on a blackboard with chalk, our activities and entertainment included waltzing and our refreshments included sipping hot tea. For our lunchtime meal we rode on our old time mode of transportation from our school to a picturesque lake nearby and enjoyed food and raspberry cordial for our beverage. But I would have to say that the most enjoyable part of the whole experience was the part when we dressed up in lovely flowing olden day dresses which, until now, I look at with heartfelt fond memories of a beautiful day that I will remember for ever.

More Charlotte's Web Photographs...

What unusual and colourful names these two have!

This shows Fern with an adorable baby Wilbur.

This is Wilbur with his extraordinarily special and amazing friend Charlotte.

This is Wilbur looking very proud of himself.

Here Fern holds Wilbur in a loving embrace.

This is another photograph of Wilbur he looks as if he is trying to say "hello!"

My Homework Task...

Salutations !

These are my comments about the Charlotte's Web movie:

1. Describe your favourite part of the film.

I really loved all of the movie, although, if I had to choose my favourite part, then I would choose the part of the story that took place at the beginning. Fern's heart was so full of love for the tiny Wilbur that she begged her father to spare his life. Even though he would not be of any profit for the family, Fern wanted to spare Wilbur's life because he was a living thing, God's creation.

2. Tell me one thing that was different in the film compared to the book.

One thing that I noticed about the film that differed from the book is the event when the runty pig Wilbur and his brothers and sisters were born. In the book it described the event in the morning, while in the movie it described the event in the evening.

3. Find a picture from Charlotte's Web on the Internet and put it in your post. You will need to 'save image as' to your 'My Pictures' in 'My Documents' first before uploading it to your blog spot.

I have included more that one photograph one is already included above to view the rest you may look under the heading More Charlotte's Web photographs...

4. Tell me why you think I chose to study this book in connection with the inquiry about Communication.

I think that you,(Mrs Jane) chose this story because it is a wonderful example of different kinds of communications that take place between, not only people, but also between animals and people and animals communicating with other animals. Fern communicated her love for Wilbur through her actions as well as words. Charlotte also communicated to the Zuckermans and others by spinning a web so they could read it as she was unable to communicate with speech. This story incorporates many different forms of communication that express the way people feel and shows us how our actions are also a form of communicating.

5. Choose 5 of your friends and post a comment about Charlotte's Web on their blogs. Remember to use your best netiquette.
